Second Day of the Fair:

The weather was cool. Just right for a light jacket; but not warm enough to work in the dunking booth. The dunking girl stood in the water while she waited for people to come try their luck because it was warmer in the water than out. It may have been warmer, but you could still see her legs shake as she shivered.

The Tractor Driving Contest took place in the horse ring. In the FFA Student Division Jonathan Powell received first place and Dylan Menc received second. In the Adult Division Bryant Burke won first place.

The Angel Food Cake Dessert Contest required some serious judging. In the end the top three spots went to three young men, great work guys!

  Contestant Name of Dessert
1st Place Matthew Kelly Matthew's Key Lime Angel Food Cake
2nd Place Jeremiah Kelly Jeremiah's Pineapple Angel Food Cake
3rd Place Jonathan Kelly Jonathan Kelly's Irresistibly Raspberry Angel Food Cake

After the contest, the audience got to eat the leftovers. They weren't left over for long!

We also had what was perhaps the most peculiar pageant to ever take place at the Amelia County Fair, the Womanless Beauty Pageant. There were nine contestants and the judges really had their work cut out for them.

Audience reaction was mixed but most of it fell between, "OMG!" and "Did I come to the right fair?" With one or two, "well... that explains a lot..." comments rounding it out.

The winner was Miss... er... Mr... um... was contestant number three.

The Day Before the Fair:

The Fair's in town! The fairgrounds are all abuzz with people doing a million things to get ready. Volunteers are taking in entries for competitions. Some judges are judging. Animals are settling down in their cages and pens. Food vendors are setting up booths. The midway is setting up. Exhibitors are bringing things to their spaces in the Exhibition Building. Compromises are being made. People are improvising. Quick trips are being made to local stores for those things that have been forgotten or broken. The fair starts tomorrow.
